Katra is mainly known for being a pilgrimage city. After all, the most sought-after trek to reach Mata Vaishno Devi Temple starts from here. But apart from being the most revered place in India, Katra has numerous tourist attractions. The temple town of Katra is located at the base of the Trikuta hill at a distance of approx 46 km from Jammu. The trek from the base uphill is around 13 km. While trekking the mountain, you will come across many religious, historical, and adventurous sites offering a splendid view of the surroundings.

Jhajjar Kotli

In recent years, Jhajjar Kotli has emerged as one of the top tourist attractions in Katra. Located 15 km from Katra, the River Jujjulet makes the place an ideal destination for a picnic getaway. The incredible surroundings and scenic beauty exude a refreshing vibe to the visitors. On your way to Jhajjar Kotli, you will find many bungalows and guest houses for a wonderful stay.

Ban Ganga

What Ganga is to Haridwar is a holy dip in Ban Ganga to Mata Vaishno Devi Temple. Ban Ganga is a tributary of the River Beas. The river holds a sacred significance en route to Mata Vaishno Devi Temple. It is said that this is where Mata stopped to take a bath and wash her hair before moving ahead to the Holy Cave. And so pilgrims dip into this holy river before taking the Darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi.

Ardhkuwari Cave & Himkoti

Moving further ahead from Ban Ganga will lead you to Ardhkuwari Cave. This is where Mata Vaishno Devi did her penance and meditation for nine months. And situated on a new track around 2. 5 km from Ardhkuwari is Himkoti. Famous for offering impressive views of the entire valley, arrive at this spot to witness magical moments. Let the cool breeze hit your face as you soak in the beauty of nature.

Bhairon Mandir

The Darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi is a must, and so is visiting the temple of Bhairon Nath. Though Bhairon Nath is the one who chased Mata for a long time, making her run to the Holy Cave before she decided to end his life for good, in the end, Mata Vaishno Devi forgave him after he pleaded for mercy and forgiveness. The generous Mata ended his suffering and made it mandatory for devotees to visit his temple. The walk from the Holy Cave to Bhairon Nath Temple is around 2-3 km uphill. 

Baba Dhansar

If you love waterfalls, a visit to Baba Dhansar will surely make your day. The holy place is around 12 km from Katra and houses a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Upon arriving here, you have to climb a series of stairs, about 100 of them, before getting a majestic view of the waterfall and natural greenery.
